His Dad Found A Box In The Snow. Nothing Could Prepare Them For What Was In It

During a long day of work, a man miraculously stumbled across a white box, nearly buried in snow. It was freezing out and the box was covered in snow and partially in branches. What he found inside broke his heart, so he decided to do something about it.

The box that he found was barely visible in the snow, as it was white and partially hidden.

It’s a miracle he spotted it at all.

When he peered inside, he saw this depressing scene: a tiny kitten, obviously cold and sick, sitting next to frozen food.

Then, he looked closer. There was another kitten inside, hiding behind his brother.

There weren’t homes, shelter or food anywhere in sight.

The kittens were obviously on their own, and slowly dying out in the wilderness.

So, he took in those abandoned kittens, determined to help them survive.

The cat at the back of the box didn’t look so bad. She was still sick, but not in bad shape like her brother.

Without help, the brother at the front of the box surely would have died. He is still very sick, is covered in his own feces and is struggling to stay alive.

If separated at all, the kittens will cry out. They are terrified to be without each other.

The kittens needed medical attention, but during the night their saviors did what they could.

They were swaddled in blankets in an attempt to raise their body temperature.

One kitten responded very well to the warmth and love, and began purring like crazy.

She also cuddled and nuzzled anyone who would be close to her.

Her brother, however, was still very sick and needed to get to the vet ASAP.

Luckily, they were both attended to and were on the road to a full recovery.

It’s incredible that these kittens were spotted from the road, hidden in that styrofoam container in the snowy wilderness. But I’m glad they were.
Because happy endings are the best.

America is not the greatest country in the world anymore, but we could be

We were the greatest country in the world, we stood up for moral reasons, we supported others because of humanity not for personal gains. We reached for the stars, we produced the best in every field. We did not scare so easily. We fought against poverty not against poor people. But then we lost our track and now we are not the greatest country in the world.

Genetically Modified Organism (GMO) - Myths and Truths

GMOs have deeply infiltrated the American food supply, almost 90% of crops like corn, soy beans, canola and sugar beats grown in the United States are now genetically modified. Genetic Engineering promises increase in Crop Yields, Lower Costs for Farmers and reduced use of herbicides but are these goals really being achieved? Are you benefiting from GMO crops? or paying a dear price for you and your children's future? It's time for an awakening.

The Moment a Fish Fought Back: Amazing Photos Show Fish Toppling Boat

Big mistake: The captain is said to have slipped while putting the boat into reverse to back down on the fish and consequently hit the throttle into full reverse and take on water

Frenzy: The marlin is easily seen prancing above the water as the crew becomes frantic to save their sinking ship

Rising up: Both the boat and the marlin's nose are seen in the air now as the boat rocks into the swarming waves

Scurrying: One man is seen clutching onto the side of the boat while another appears already half-way under while facing the still jumping fish

Strength: The boat's alleged manufacturer wrote in to Marlin Magazine's Facebook page to argue the strength of their boats claiming it has captured hundreds of similar fish in the same area before

One that got away: The marlin is seen jumping above where the boat once floated while all crew members are said to have been rescued without any injuries reported

Everyone Should be Eating More Avocados. Here's why:

Often deemed a “perfect food”, the avocado is considered one of the healthiest foods available. Many consider this prolific green fruit, vegetable, and nut combined a superfood. Here is why you should be eating this fabulous food.

It’s important to understand that a body needs fats, as long as they’re healthy ones. Omega 3 fatty acids are missing in the average western diet, and this missing fatty acid is just one reason for the ‘bad health epidemic’ . It just so happens that avocados are high in omega 3 and omega 6 fats. Avocados are a rich source of wholesome unsaturated beneficial fats with lots of oleic acid, which is good for heart health.

Avocados Come with All the Amino Acids You Get from Animal Protein

The avocado provides all 18 essential amino acids needed by a body to create complete protein. But instead of going through the effort of breaking down complex animal proteins for usable amino acids, avocados offer complete amino acid kits for your body to use according to its needs.

Unlike meats, avocados don’t putrefy in the stomach, and with avocados’ high fiber content, there’s no threat of constipation. Avocados are without the antibiotics and hormones that are injected into the GMO corn/soy meal fed to cattle raised for mass slaughter to fill the meat counters of supermarkets.

Other Nutrients in Avocados

Avocados are bursting with enzymes, phytonutrients, and are rich in minerals, including the usually deficient master mineral magnesium, which is involved in over 300 cellular metabolic functions. They also help the liver manufacture glutathione, the important master antioxidant that replenishes spent antioxidants.

Vitamins A, much of the B complex, K, E, and C are also available in avocados. The nutrient order of importance is enzymes, minerals, and vitamins. Vitamins won’t work without minerals, and neither minerals nor vitamins get into your cells without enzymes.

There are few accessible tasty foods packing as much nutritional value as avocados. Here’s a table of fats, amino acids, minerals, and vitamins – all the nutrients in avocado.

Picking and Preparing

Though it’s normally suggested to buy fruit and vegetables organic due to pesticide exposure, you can get away with non-organic avocados and save some money. They are at the top of EWG’s “Clean 15 List”, which means they aren’t especially toxic. Many of them come from Mexico, where avocado is served commonly in homes and restaurants.

You can tell when avocados are ripe mostly by feel. If you can mush an avocado slightly with a gentle squeeze, it’s ready to eat. However, if you are not using all of them right away, pick some green hard ones and let them ripen at home.

Remove the skin by cutting into it just enough to peel it off and preserve the dark green section nearest the skin where a lot of nutrition is concentrated. Sliced for salads is an ideal way of eating avocados easily and often.

There are many recipes for blending avocados and making dressings or sauces, but the party favorite is the big Kahuna for nutrition as well as taste: guacamole! The combination of mashed avocado, olive oil, sea salt, pepper, a little chopped chili, chopped onions, and mashed garlic creates a synergistic super food as well as a tasty treat.

The 13 most under-reported news stories of 2013

Image: rt.com

From Aaron Swartz to Assange, Monsanto to Manning, fracking fears, Iraq carnage and more, here are RT’s "Top 13 of 2013." These vastly underreported stories are some of the biggest ones to fly under the mainstream media’s radar this year.

The persecution and death of Aaron Swartz

The visionary cofounder of Reddit and open access advocate who played a key role in how we navigate the web today, Aaron Swartz was young, precocious and determined to change the world. But with “the trial” looming large over his head, the tech genius succumbed to the pressure on January 11, hanging himself with his own belt in the Brooklyn apartment he shared with his girlfriend.

Gitmo hunger strike

In February, many of the men being held at the Guantanamo Bay detention facility launched a hunger strike against camp conditions. It was sparked by a disrespectful treatment of Quran. One month into the strike, attorneys for the men, many housed at the facilities infamous Camp 6, said the number refusing food had already reached 100.

Mayflower Oil Spill

On March 29, ExxonMobil’s Pegasus pipeline burst near the town of Mayflower, Arkansas, flooding the town with the equivalent of over 10,000 barrels of crude oil. Nearly two dozen homes were evacuated following the accident, which the US Environmental Protection Agency categorized as a “major spill”.

‘Million Mask March’

‘Remember, remember the Fifth of November’, when protesters donning white-faced Guy Fawkes masks gathered in an estimated 450 locations worldwide to protest corporate greed, corrupt governance, and the ever expanding surveillance state.

The event, dubbed the “Million Mask March,” was associated with the hacktivist collective Anonymous and the horizontally organized Occupy movement. Originally growing out of the image board 4chan, Anonymous became increasingly political following the 2011 Arab Spring, targeting governments and corporations like the internet’s answer to white blood cells.

No Fracking way!

On October 19, Fracktivists’ from over 26 countries organized the Global Frackdown protest to demand an end to “dangerous” shale gas drilling.

FBI kills Todashev, friend of Boston Marathon bombing suspect

FBI agents shot an unarmed Chechen man in the head during questioning over his suspected ties to the Boston Marathon bombings of May 2013. The FBI has since aimed to sweep the incident under the rug, blocking the release of Ibragim Todashev’s autopsy and intimidating those associated with him.

The world marches against Monsanto and GMO

Public anger against GMO food products and GMO giant, Monsanto, erupted in massive global protests in May and October against the company’s stranglehold on global food production. Millions went out in 50 countries, with signs reading ‘Hell no GMO’.

War on Anonymous

This year was a busy one for hacktivist group Anonymous, as well as for attorneys representing alleged members of the collective.

Online operations waged over the past year by the internationally-dispersed band of hackers and activists attracted the attention of people across the globe. But it wasn’t just ordinary citizens keeping an eye on the group; governments and prosecutors were doing the same. In fact, 2013 witnessed numerous global efforts aimed at taking the group down.

The Trial of Chelsea Manning

If you’re looking for proof that the mainstream media failed Army whistleblower Chelsea Manning, look no further than statements made by the imprisoned WikiLeaks source herself.

Not only was the three-month military court martial of Manning largely ignored by established media outlets, but the former private first class said while on the stand that her own efforts to attract the attention of the press years earlier - before she turned to anti-secrecy organization WikiLeaks - were ignored as well.

WikiLeaks victories as Assange incarceration in Ecuador embassy reaches 3rd anniversary

WikiLeaks won a court case in April that landed Visa with million-dollar fines for its financial blockade of the site. Julian Assange, still holed up in Ecuador’s London Embassy, said it was a victory over Washington's attempt to silence WikiLeaks.

December 7 marked the third year of his detention, despite no charges being filed against him in the country. Assange remains under threat of extradition to Sweden, with the journalist being wanted for questioning in connection with a sexual misconduct investigation, which he labels as politically motivated. He believes Sweden will, in turn, extradite him to the US, where he could face espionage charges, which could carry the death penalty.

Syrian Christians persecuted and forced to flee Maaloula

Maaloula, an ancient Christian town where the locals speak western Aramaic - a language spoken by Christ - has seen some of the fiercest fighting in the Syrian civil war, with attacks on Christians who were eventually forced to make desperate escapes.

Christians and Muslims used to coexist in Maaloula peacefully and despite the civil war raging around them had agreed that their town must remain one of peace. But when Maaloula was taken over in early September by the Islamist fighters from jabat al-Nusra, a group with links to Al-Qaeda, not one of the town’s 5,000 Christian residents or virtually a single member of the 2,000 strong Muslim community remained. All have now fled, fearing for their lives. Maaloula has become a ghost town.

Libya mired in spiral of violence and ongoing chaos

Two years after the NATO-backed deposition of Libyan leader, Muammar Gaddafi, the country is in chaos. 2013 has witnessed the siege of Libya’s Foreign ministry, the Russian embassy falling under attack, high-ranking officials kidnapped, as well as repeated and deadly clashes between the Libyan army and Islamist militia.

In April, Libya’s foreign ministry was besieged by some 200 men armed with AK-47 assault guns and sniper rifles. Demands were made to sack key foreign service officers in Libya’s embassies and consulates abroad. Intense negotiations followed.

Iraq 2013: A year of carnage

Iraq has been embroiled in a bloodbath this year, with over 9,000 killed in total, according to Iraq Body Count - making it the most violent year the country has seen since 2008. RT’s timeline of the annihilation was set up to keep track of its escalation.

Nearly two years after US troops withdrew from Iraq, security forces are struggling to combat the violence. Iraq has been plunging deeper into inter-ethnic violence, prompted by ever-growing tensions mostly between the country’s majority Shiite community and the Sunni minority.

Little Known Chinese Herb & Iron Kill 98% of Cancer Cells in 16 Hours

Image: naturalsociety.com

Christina Sarich | Natural Society

According to studies that were published in an issue of Life Sciences, artemesinin – a derivative of the wormwood plant used in Chinese Medicine - can kill 98% of breast cancer cells in less than 16 hours. The herb used alone caused a 28% reduction in breast cancer cells, but when paired with iron, sweet wormwood was able to eradicate cancer almost entirely. What’s more, normal human breast cancer cells were not affected in the experiment by this treatment.

Artemisinin has been used in the past as a powerful anti-malarial herb, but it now has been proven to be a cancer-fighter, too. When subjects in the published study were given an iron supplement, which often accumulates in the breast tissue but especially so in cancerous cells, the artemisinin was able to selectively target ‘bad’ cells and leave ‘good’ cells alone.
“Taken together, our results demonstrate that the artemisinin disruption of E2F1 transcription factor expression mediates the cell cycle arrest of human breast cancer cells and represents a critical transcriptional pathway by which artemisinin controls human reproductive cancer cell growth.”

Iron accumulates in cancerous cells due to special receptors that help them in cell division, called transferrin receptors. Normal cells likely have these receptors as well, but cancerous cells have them in greater abundance, and thus can be targeted by the iron-artemisinin combination, like a 1-2 punch.

There have been many experiments now that prove this sweet wormwood derivative can effectively eradicate disease in the presence of iron. The extract has been used for thousand of years in China to treat malaria. The malaria parasite cannot live in the presence of artemisinin because they are iron-rich, but the treatment works just as well for cancerous cells, too. Bioengineers Henry Lai and Narendra Singh of the University of Washington, Seattle were the scientists who initially made this discovery. This is yet another example of a natural herb causing cancerous cell apoptosis.

While the sweet wormwood extract has been somewhat difficult to obtain for a fair price for countless years, it is now on its way to being mass-produced by biotech. Will the result be positive and promising?

“It’s the volatility that really makes the supply chain for this life-saving drug just a complete train wreck,” says Jack Newman, chief scientific officer of the California-based biotech firm Amyris. ”When we first started talking about this,” Newman says, “we gave it 1,000 to 1 odds of ever working. “
French drugmaker Sanofi is expected to make 50 to 60 tons of artemisinin each year, striving to supply enough demand for the global market.

That’s Not A Poor Farmer Checking On His Crops. You’ll Never Guess Who It Actually Is

Meet José Mujica. He may look like your average farmer or grandfather, but he is anything but. This man is globally known as the world’s “poorest President” because he lives a life of humility… all while leading the country of Uruguay. As a man who truly cares about his people, he doesn’t take an obscene amount of money to just act as a politician. He donates about 90% of his $12,000 monthly salary to charities that benefit poor people and small entrepreneurs.

Other countries, listen up.

It’s not uncommon to see Jose dressed like this. He doesn’t care about money and appearances, but just leading his country.

He has literally spent his entire life fighting for his country.

He was a guerilla fighter that battled for the rights of the country’s citizens, was imprisoned twice and was shot 6 times after an escape attempt.

This is Uruguay’s Presidential Palace. He doesn’t live here.

He actually is a part-time farmer. He and his wife also grow and sell flowers. He also drives a 1987 Volkswagen Beetle.

He only has two guards positioned on his road. Along with his beloved 3-legged dog Manuela, of course.

Instead of acting like he is better than everybody else, the president of a country wholeheartedly believes that he IS like everybody else.

In a time when it seems that rich politicians rule the world, learning about Jose is truly refreshing. Please share this article with others.
